Season 2, GOAT Builds, and Patch 2.0
Season 2 launched October 16, 2026, headlined by Tyrese Haliburton and Caitlin Clark, and it introduced GOAT Builds — preset MyPLAYER builds modeled on NBA legends that break the normal Builder caps. Patch v2.0 arrived on October 8 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the PC and Switch 2 versions releasing shortly before Season 2 started.
GOAT Builds change what the Builder means this season. They recreate legends with attribute and physical ceilings above the standard caps — 2K's own example is a Magic Johnson point guard whose height exceeds the 6'7" Create Your Own PG limit — and they lock signature animations to keep the legend's feel while leaving Badges, Cap Breakers, and Takeovers editable. Each build has its own archetype name.

Patch 2.0's gameplay list is unusually specific, so it is worth knowing before blaming your own timing: it fixes “ghost contests” where a defender who was not truly contesting still hurt the shot, rebalances shot selection and three-point percentages, reduces multiple rim bounces on missed-shot rebounds, reduces missed dunks when Dunk Timing is off, makes contact dunks succeed more often at every Rise Up badge level, tunes several Takeovers, improves passing and catching responsiveness, and matches steal animations to the stealer's rating. MyCAREER Eras also gained full 25-year careers, and Crew Divisions pay more REP and Crew XP.
Who this version is for
Best for: players who want the current MyCAREER, MyTEAM, MyNBA, City, and online console ecosystem and have checked that their friends are on compatible systems. Standard is the straightforward purchase if the included VC and mode items do not already justify Deluxe's $30 premium.
Think twice if: you need PC-to-console crossplay, Switch 2 crossplay, or a PC version without a 2K account and kernel-level Easy Anti-Cheat. Steam's all-languages, Steam-purchases snapshot was Mixed: 1,927 positive and 1,987 negative reviews (49.2% positive; 3,914 total) when captured on October 21, 2026. PC buyers should read the current reviews before buying because this aggregate does not explain why each owner voted up or down.

What the official records establish
The City is co-ed in NBA 2K27. Male and female MyPLAYER builds use the same height, badge, attribute, and wingspan framework; female MyPLAYERs are a City-only experience. The Builder introduces Badge Tokens, 53 badges, specialization, and real-time qualification feedback. These are design facts, not evidence that one launch build is already dominant.
MyCAREER adds five historical eras, an 11-chapter modern story called Fire & Concrete, and optional two-player co-op through Trace Miller. MyNBA Legacy is a separate single-player, player-locked dynasty mode. MyTEAM changes its Exchange and introduces a unified auction house across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2.
