How Running Mate works
- Play the modern Fire & Concrete MyCAREER story until Trace Miller is introduced in the G League.
- Choose one of nine player templates for Trace. The official announcement says those templates carry traits inspired by current NBA players.
- Earn gameplay points to improve Trace's attributes, Badges, play style, and Running Mate play skills.
- Invite a friend who owns NBA 2K27 when you want co-op for a game. The friend controls the version of Trace you built.
- Skip co-op when you want to play alone; AI controls Trace instead.
Co-op is not a separate permanent save that requires the same partner every night. The host keeps the career and decides game by game whether another player controls Trace.
What “Running Mate quick plays” currently means
2K's official MyCAREER reveal confirms that Trace unlocks new Running Mate play skills as he develops. The two official explanations checked for this page do not publish a controller input, menu path, or named list for “Running Mate quick plays.” That means the progression system is confirmed, but a button-by-button quick-play instruction is not supported by those sources.
If you are trying to call an on-court quick play, use the current in-game Controls or 2KU prompt for your platform and verify that Trace has already joined the career. This page will add a control sequence only after it can be reproduced in the released build or 2K publishes one; it will not turn the search phrase into an invented button combination.
The modern Fire & Concrete story spans 11 chapters. When Trace is introduced, the host chooses one of nine player templates for him.
