The game moved past the 1.0.12 save-and-bugfix era into content updates; this page separates what 1.1.0 added, what 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 corrected, and which 1.0.12 advice still applies.
How to Fish is on Patch 1.1.3 (September 29, 2026), after the 1.1.0 “Islet Update” added mini-islands, a new weapon, a new mini-boss, and new bait. If a guide still calls 1.0.12 the current build, it predates the first content update. The Steam Cloud upload step from 1.0.12 still matters, but the balance and map advice around it has moved on.
| If you were affected by… | What changed | What to do now |
|---|---|---|
| You already cleared the original islands | 1.1.0 added multiple mini-islands, more creatures, a new mini-boss, items, a new bait, and a new NPC | Use the new bait on the mini-islands rather than re-clearing the main route |
| Tench never spawns | 1.1.2 fixed the Tench not spawning from the new bait | Update to 1.1.2 or later before re-farming |
| Bait ran out too fast on the new island | 1.1.2 raised new-bait spawn from 2 to 3 | Re-check the spawn rate on the current build, not on a launch-week video |
| You cannot rebind reload | 1.1.2 added rebinding for reload | Set it in the controls menu |
| The mini-boss looks broken | 1.1.2 fixed triangles facing the wrong direction on the new mini-boss | Update before reporting a visual bug |
| You want to know which bait catches a fish | 1.1.3 shows the bait name in the fishipedia | The entry appears only after you have killed that fish once |
| Existing save is not in Steam Cloud | 1.0.12 moved saves to Steam Cloud | Play and exit once on the PC holding the save before opening the game elsewhere |
| Piranha or Tuna behaviour feels different | 1.0.12 rebalanced the Piranha and nerfed the Tuna | Keep the route, but recheck health, damage, and timer assumptions in the current build |
What the Islet Update (1.1.0) added
The 1.1.0 note is a content list rather than a fix list: a new weapon, multiple mini-islands, more creatures, a new mini-boss, more items, a new bait, a new NPC, new achievements, and a new outfit, plus a bundle with PEAK. It also adjusted sound-effect volume and the distance between islands.
That last change is why old island-order advice needs a second look. The main quest chain is not restructured in the notes, but the spacing between islands changed, so travel-time claims from launch week are no longer reliable.
What 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 corrected
Patch 1.1.2 is the fix pass the new content needed: reload rebinding, two new bow skins, new-bait spawn raised from 2 to 3, shinier rod skins, wishbone upgrade pricing, larger mini-island dots on the radar, an option to downgrade to iron sights again, the Tench spawn fix, and the mini-boss triangle fix.
Patch 1.1.3 adds exactly one thing: the fishipedia now shows which bait catches a fish, once you have killed that fish at least once. It is a lookup convenience, not a new drop mechanic.
What the developers said on October 12
The team confirmed ten million players within two months of the August 20 launch and said it is working on a bigger content update, console ports, and bug fixes “in the coming months.” No platforms and no dates are named. Treat any specific console date you see elsewhere as unconfirmed.
Which 1.0.12 advice still applies
The 1.0.12 changes that still hold are the Steam Cloud migration step, the item-velocity cap, the MetaVoice update, the lobby FPS-cap fix, the radio preload, and the final-boss explosive-tail fix.
“Rebalanced Piranha” still publishes no replacement values. The Island 2 Piranha route explains the quest sequence and hand-in, but any health, damage, ammunition, or timer claim must be checked against the current build — and the 1.1.0 content update is a further reason not to trust launch-week numbers.
