The 100,000 figure is the arithmetic maximum added by 25 increments of 4,000. It is additional Premium Storage capacity, not a claim about every player's complete inventory total after combining other chest upgrades.
What the first two upgrades unlock
The first Premium Storage purchase unlocks a Premium Storage Chest that can be placed on the Home Plot. The second unlocks the crafting recipe for that chest. Singularity 6 also says Premium Storage Chests do not count toward the normal Storage Chest placement limit, allowing more of them to be placed around a plot.
Buying multiple physical chests is not the same as buying multiple capacity upgrades. Capacity grows from the Premium Storage upgrade count; the chest and recipe provide access objects for the expanded storage.
What remains free in Patch 0.206
Patch 0.206 also adds storage category tabs. Those tabs reorganize browsing and are part of the update rather than the Premium Storage purchase. A player who buys no storage expansion can still use the new category interface. Likewise, the Docks Civic Project, its personal XP path, Player Titles, Free Cam, and the free Path of the Great Sage rewards are not unlocked by buying storage.
The distinction matters because “premium storage update” can describe both a patch feature and a store product. The paid part is capacity expansion and its Premium Storage Chest unlocks; the interface organization is a separate general improvement.
