What E-Day is
E-Day is a prequel set fourteen years before the first Gears of War. Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago face the opening Locust invasion, so the campaign's place in the timeline is clear even though its mission routes and ending are not public evidence yet.
The product contains two different group experiences. The story campaign works solo, in two-player split screen, or online with up to four players. Multiplayer includes 12-player Horde Siege, 4v4 Versus, and four-player Combat Training. Those numbers should not be merged into one vague “supports 12 players” statement.
The August tests are over. They verified that the test build included Horde Siege and 4v4 modes, and the official FAQ says earned beta rewards carry into the full game. The beta's PC targets were explicitly not final launch requirements; the current Steam launch requirements are documented separately.
