After patch 1.17 and Tarnished Pack ownership are active, Heavy Knight and Idus Knight appear during character creation. Existing characters are not locked out of their equipment: Bandai Namco says the new class gear and weapons can also be bought from merchants or found in the Lands Between.
New class access
Heavy Knight and Idus Knight are starting-class choices. Selecting one creates a new character with that class package; it does not convert an existing save into a new “class,” because Elden Ring's starting class is an opening allocation and equipment set rather than a permanent job restriction.
For an existing character, follow the separate equipment path. The official notes confirm merchant purchases and world finds, but they do not name every merchant or exact coordinate. This page stops at the verified acquisition boundary rather than filling the gap with guessed routes.

After obtaining any Spectral Steed Attire, a new option for changing Torrent's appearance appears in the Site of Grace menu. You do not need to collect all three before the menu exists.
New invasion events
Patch 1.17 adds one NPC invasion in Caelid and another in Leyndell, Royal Capital. The Leyndell event will not occur after the area changes to Leyndell, Ashen Capital. Players progressing an existing late-game save should therefore treat the capital-state warning as missable-version context and use another suitable save or cycle if the event is no longer available.
Before troubleshooting missing content
- Confirm the Tarnished Pack is owned on the same platform account as the base game.
- Install the latest game update and verify the title screen shows App Ver. 1.17 and Regulation Ver. 1.17.
- On PC and consoles, allow the DLC entitlement to finish downloading or refreshing.
- Remember that new classes appear only in character creation; check merchants and the world for equipment on an existing save.
Patch 1.17 is required for online play. The pack also requires the base Elden Ring product; it is not a standalone executable.
