A procedurally generated post-apocalyptic North America in Afterworld

The campaign begins with a survivor group in a procedurally generated version of North America. You choose an Origin—Paradox gives shelterfolk from a bunker and wayward zealots as examples—then secure food, water, and fuel, establish settlements, move people, and build the supply network needed to grow from a tribe into a continental power.

What makes the strategy structure distinct

The map and development path are not fixed. Paradox says terrain, ruins, hazards, and opportunities change between campaigns. The Ideas Tree develops dynamically from discoveries and events, so it is not presented as one permanent research order. Expansion also depends on convoys and supply lines rather than territory alone.

Government is part of the simulation. Players set laws and ethics, decide how scarce resources are allocated, choose leadership, trade or negotiate with other tribes, absorb them, or use force. Remnant pre-Fall technology can alter the balance. Immortal figures called Ancients survived from before the collapse and can lead emerging powers.

This evidence is enough to define the systems, but not to prescribe an optimal Origin, law set, opening route, or multiplayer meta. Those decisions require released-build behavior and numbers.
