GAME INTRODUCTION
What to know before you play
Nintendo is bringing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. It is a separate, Switch 2-exclusive digital product—not the Nintendo 64 version already available through Nintendo Switch Online. Nintendo has not announced the exact date or US price.

Choose the exact answer
- Check the 2026 release date, price, and preorder status.
- Confirm Switch 2 exclusivity, Switch 1 status, and Nintendo Classics access.
- Separate confirmed remake facts from unannounced changes.

Nintendo describes the Nintendo 64 classic as returning for a new generation and being “reborn” exclusively for Switch 2. The current product page does not identify a developer, resolution target, frame rate, control changes, Master Quest, new dungeons, amiibo support, upgrade path, or save transfer.
The distinction from earlier versions matters. Ocarina of Time 3D was the 2011 Nintendo 3DS remake with overhauled 3D visuals, touch inventory, and motion controls. The Nintendo Switch Online release reproduces the Nintendo 64 game through Nintendo Classics. Neither description proves what the 2026 Switch 2 game inherits.
What you can decide now
If you only own a Switch 1, Nintendo has not announced this new product for your console. You can still play the reproduced Nintendo 64 original through the Nintendo Classics catalog with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. That subscription version is not an upgrade entitlement or a preorder for the 2026 game.
If you are deciding whether to buy a Switch 2, the announcement confirms the target console but does not yet supply enough information to compare editions, performance, controls, or added content. An undated retailer listing cannot answer those questions. The useful buying facts today are the platform, 2026 window, digital listing, and absence of an official US price or preorder button.
“Remake” is the active search wording, not a feature checklist. Nintendo's own wording is that the Nintendo 64 classic is being “reborn” for a new generation. Until Nintendo publishes a detailed comparison, claims about Master Quest, new dungeons, the 3DS interface, frame rate, or save transfer remain unconfirmed.
