FAST ANSWER

Formation order matters more than a letter grade. Use these teams as testable shells, with a skill pair and a failure condition for each slot.

Choose a TBH team by the wall you are facing: Knight–Priest–Ranger for survival, Priest–Ranger–Sorcerer for faster farming, then change one role at a time.

TBH team comps: copy the jobs, not just the names

TBH formations are ordered. The first hero receives contact, while the next positions let support and ranged damage work. A “best team” without slot order, skills, and a failure condition is not a usable build.

Team 1: Knight + Priest + Ranger — safest general route

SlotHeroFirst skills to compareGear problem to solve
1KnightShield Charge + defensive passivesHP, Armor, HP Regen
2PriestHeal + Blessing Of MightHP/Armor first; cooldown later
3RangerRapid Fire + Arrow RainAttack Speed, then Crit

Use this shell when you are pushing a stage blind or leaving the game running while you work. Knight gives the party time; Priest either prevents the wipe or gives the team a damage buff; Ranger converts that time into boss progress.

Swap rule: if Knight survives but the boss timer fails, keep the formation order and move the next damage upgrade to Ranger. If Knight dies first, do not buy more damage on Ranger until the front slot can last through the wave.

Team 2: Priest + Ranger + Sorcerer — damage-heavy farm

SlotHeroFirst skills to compareJob
1PriestHeal or Wrath of Heaven + Blessing Of MightFrontline sustain and party buff
2RangerRapid Fire + Arrow RainFocused damage
3SorcererFireball + Ice OrbArea damage

This is the setup described in a recent PC Gamer endgame run and a separate build guide. It works when the Priest can hold the front long enough for Ranger and Sorcerer to remove the wave. It is not automatically safer than Knight + Priest + Ranger.

Use it when: the party already survives and group clear time is the bottleneck.

Do not use it when: Priest is dying before her heal loop starts. Add Knight first or improve Priest’s HP/Armor.

Team 3: Slayer + Priest + Ranger — utility frontline

SlotHeroJob
1SlayerFrontline plus party utility (Commander's Cry in current guides)
2PriestHeal and Blessing Of Might
3RangerMain carry

Slayer is a paid-class experiment, not a prerequisite. Compare it with Knight on the same stage. Keep Slayer only if the party utility and damage make up for any loss of durability.

Team 4: Solo Ranger — a specific farming experiment

PC Gamer reports using Ranger alone on some Torment stages where extra heroes disturbed enemy positions and died to exploding Fire Elementals. That is an endgame farming condition, not a beginner shortcut.

Try solo Ranger only when the full team already clears the stage. Compare:

  • clear time over five runs;
  • failed runs and deaths;
  • Gold and chest flow per minute;
  • whether the rest of the roster falls too far behind.

Keep the solo setup only if the numbers are better. Do not remove two heroes because a tier list says Ranger is S-tier.

Reordering deployed heroes is reported as immediate; replacing a deployed hero carries the current 60-second cooldown. Decide the comparison before pressing Deploy.

These are testable formations, not official balance recommendations. Compare them on the same stage and difficulty without changing gear grade between runs.

QUICK ANSWERS

Questions players ask next

What is the safest early TBH team?

Knight in front, Priest in the middle, and Ranger in the back is the safest general-purpose starting shell. The exact second skill and gear should follow the stage wall.

Is Priest Ranger Sorcerer always the best team?

No. It is a high-damage shell from a recent endgame test, but it needs enough Priest durability and can fail where a Knight or Slayer frontline would stabilize the run.
