AT A GLANCE

Build identity comes from avatar customization, weapon family, scaling stats, three equipped Sword Skills, EX-Mods, and partner behavior.

Echoes of Aincrad lets you create the player hero, then builds combat identity from one of six weapon families, scaling stats, up to three equipped Sword Skills, EX-Mods, and a chosen partner.

WeaponOfficial role boundary
Sword and shieldBalanced offense and defense; shield can be removed for faster risk
Two-handed axeSlow, aggressive area attacks; no shield
DaggerFast, short-range, lower average damage; can throw blades
RapierReach, chained attacks, and counters; shield compatible
Two-handed swordCharged heavy attacks; changes dodge to a roll; no shield
MaceShield compatible; emphasizes defense break, stagger, and knockdown

Weapon use earns Weapon EXP and unlocks Sword Skills. The blacksmith can improve base parameters, craft equipment, combine same-type weapons, and pool up to four EX-Mod effects on one weapon. Growth Points raise Strength, Dexterity, Agility, Intelligence, Vitality, Endurance, and Mind; the correct damage stat depends on the scaling shown for the equipped weapon and skill.

Cardinal Rank is not just a level number. It can unlock merchant and smith inventory, improve partners, raise some monster difficulty, and improve drops. Spend Growth Points and improve equipment after a rank increase rather than assuming the rank itself makes every encounter easier.

There is no permanent “best weapon” claim here. Version 1.0.5 changed SP gain by weapon, improving slower weapons and reducing it for several high-hit types, while also tuning individual Sword Skills. A useful build must name the current patch, weapon, objective, and partner role.
