Test weapon families, keep Growth Points and gear aligned with Cardinal Rank, reveal maps through checkpoints, and prepare before entering a sealed boss room.
Start with sword and shield long enough to learn stamina, guard, dodge, and Sword Skills; test the other weapon families before committing materials, and return to base before crossing a boss barrier you cannot retreat through.
A focused first-session route
- Finish the opening with the balanced sword-and-shield setup. Watch separate Stamina and SP costs instead of spending both without an exit.
- In the Town of Beginnings, test the six weapon identities. Weapons can be changed between quests, so choose before leaving town.
- Equip no more than three Sword Skills that cover clear jobs: a safe opener, a response to groups or guard, and a stronger punish. Do not fill slots only by headline damage.
- Spend Growth Points on the stats shown to scale the selected weapon and skills. Use Vitality, Endurance, or Mind when survival resources are the actual limit.
- Improve or craft equipment at the smithy. Combine same-type weapons only after reading the EX-Mod effects you are preserving.
- Activate checkpoints during a quest. They reveal the surrounding map, treasure markers, mechanisms, and some shortcuts.
- Preview the partner's Support and Combination Skills before departure. Use Switch Mode to divide attention and Free Mode to focus targets.
- Before a boss barrier, restock Healing Crystals and consumables. The official guide warns that the fight does not allow retreat once it starts.
Cardinal Rank can make monsters stronger while also opening better items and raising partner ability. If a new rank makes the next area feel harsh, first check unspent Growth Points, old weapon levels, and missing recovery items—not just the difficulty menu.
This is a first-session operating order, not a claim that sword and shield stays best. Patch 1.0.5 changed weapon SP recovery and skill balance, so build advice must remain versioned.
