Three story perspectives cover a custom Japanese player, supervised original narratives, and rival side stories; separate tools handle editing, practice, and competitive matches.
Captain Tsubasa 2 divides its story into NEW STARS, LEGENDARY/ADVANCED, and RIVALS EPISODE. NEW STARS follows a custom player with Japan. LEGENDARY/ADVANCED presents supervised new narratives. RIVALS EPISODE shifts attention to opponents around the world.

NEW STARS is the custom-player route
Bandai Namco describes NEW STARS as a World Youth route seen through a fully customizable character who becomes part of the Japanese national team. Bonds with manga characters are connected to learning their moves, so character relationships have a gameplay purpose rather than existing only as dialogue.
The official material does not state the number of chapters, all bond thresholds, every learnable move, or whether one playthrough can collect everything. Those questions need a reproducible route audit from the released build.
LEGENDARY/ADVANCED and RIVALS serve different perspectives
LEGENDARY/ADVANCED contains narratives that include original material not present in the manga, under creator Yoichi Takahashi's supervision. That makes “manga difference” a legitimate future reference topic, but supervision is not proof that every scene is canon to every Captain Tsubasa continuity.
RIVALS EPISODE focuses on players from other countries as they train and develop. It is not described as a fourth custom-player campaign or a cooperative mode.
Where the tournament goes
Japan faces Thailand, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, and China during qualifying before the World Youth stage introduces opponents including Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Uruguay, Cameroon, Sweden, and the Netherlands. This is the publisher's route framing, not a complete match order or walkthrough.
Editing, practice, and matches
PLAYER EDIT changes appearance, physique, and signature moves. TEAM EDIT is the team-building layer. PRACTICE exists for learning systems, while REGULAR MATCH is the separate competitive mode. For actual player limits and network boundaries, use the multiplayer and crossplay page.
No ending count, route length, missable bond, or unlock sequence is published here. Those fields remain open until the game can be audited on a named patch.
